Started a mesh top today. I got the clear mesh on Amazon and the window framing stuff from lowes. I spent about $30 total and have lots of extra mesh if I need to replace it later down the road.

Frame test fit. I had to cut a bit of the corner out so my pump cable could pass through.

Here is one side completed.

And lastly one side sitting in place. It's got a low enough profile it's almost like it's supposed to have a screen there.

Finally got some time to work on some wire management and get a NET module wired in. I as hard as I try to keep things organized it still looks messy. At least it's not a rats nest!

The black looks soo much better. I did the same thing, sprayed 2-3 coats of black paint was pretty awesome. Good choice!

Whipped this up today. Using 36 square inches of screen and a maxi jet 1200 pump. I will put the LED grow light on one side and a 100 watt CFL on the other. It's currently running over night in RO water.

Chris, I have made a few changes to quiet it down. When I first put it in is was very noisy!! I re cut the slot pipe with a nice straight slot exactly 1/8" wide and put the end of the screen in the water. The valve on the right also slows the flow down to make it even quieter. I suspect that once algae starts growing on the screen it will be nearly silent. From what I read if properly designed the only noise you should hear is the pump.

Algae is picking up growth. Almost 2 weeks and I now have the base layer growing.

Also, here is a pic of my flowerpot and open brain. Both are growing and responding well to feeding.

I added a Xenia and green star polyp. Haven't opened yet and I still need to find a good place for the GSP

I would say the screen you can get at any craft store and the sheets of plastic is acrylic sheets to keep down on water from splashing on bulbs you can get it at home depot .

It's just a sheet of acrylic cut to size with nylon nuts. I just balance it on top. I hear sandwich wrap works just as well if not better
