What made you decide to switch over to Tropic Marin salt?

Just experimenting with a higher quality salt for this system. I got to chatting with the Tropic Marin rep at CMAC and he convinced me to try it.. Told myself I would give it a shot for my next build. I plan on using Tropic Marin 3 part for dosing as well..

I read nothing but great things about it.

Manny this build is SICK!!!

Thanks...

Yes it's good stuff!! Are you doing deep sand bed or light in your build??

I'm doing a light sand bed and plan on vacuuming regularly to keep it clean and free of detritus.

Getting closer!!

Here is the 100 lbs of rock I won at the raffle at CMAC!!

I started playing around with the aqua scape. Here is a 2 island scape. I like it but not in love with it.

I may try a one island scape tomorrow.

Yay or nay???

Do you prefer 1 island or 2 island.

I got 3 bags for the 80 gallon. Going to see where that brings us as far as depth. Part of me wants a deeper sand bed so that I can keep a wrasse. But I really want a real clean looking substrate...so I am on the fence.

I few purchases over the weeknd..

I bought the materials to stain the stand. I have been pushing it to the side for a while now. Here is what I am going with.

Bought the tunze care long to clean the glass. This thing is awesome, I used it on my 40breeder. Can't believe I went so long with out it. lol..

Some live stock!! Picked up a cleaning crew.. I am only doing trochus snails in this system. Best snail by far IMO and the only ones worth having in a reef... Bought 15 to start off with.

Getting closer to putting water in the tank..

I added the sand today. Again I went with Tropic Eden 60lbs of ReefFlakes and 30lbs of Miniflakes. This stuff is absolutely amazing best substrate I have used thus far as far as aesthetics, now wonder people go crazy for this stuff.

I am doing a light sand bed 1-2 inches and ended up only using 60 lbs (1 and 1).

Some pics.

As far as the aqua scape I was absolutely in love with the left island and knew if I took it down I will not be able to reconstruct it. It's hollow in the center and gets a ton of light through it. I think that I can have corals growing out of the inside of the rocks up towards the light which I think would be really cool.

The right island has a ton of surface are on top great SPS real estate. Just tons of room for corals to grow. I am overall happy with it and decided to keep it for now.

My first water test today. I Teed off my RODI unit and ran the line to my ATO reservoir, took about 50 feet of 1/4 inch tubing. I tested all the fittings for leaks and also the container and made sure the float valve in the container was working as well. Started fine tuning the ATO system as well. I'm exited to finally get some water in the tank even though it's just a little water in the sump. LOL..

Should have water in this week..

It's been a while since my last update.

Since I have added water, stained and poly the stand.

I ordered some liverock to see my system from TampaBay Saltwater.

Cycled.

Added some fish, no corals yet.

As of now I have 3 bangai cardinals, 3 barletts anthias, 1 hippo tang.

Some pics along the way...

Test is good my tank is leaking after 11 months

That sucks!! how did it start leaking after almost a year?

It's funny for me personally after adding water, everything was leaking. It was so frustrating. I said it before and i'll say it again, the most challeging part of this build has been the plumbing. I am still dealing with issues.

But after tightning all the bulkheads and fittings, retaping joints with teflon tape. Everything stopped squirting.

Looks awesome!!

Thanks! appreciated it.

Just ordered this tank, and exact same overflow, then stumbled across your build, lol. I like your style!

Nice, you will not be disappointed. Feel free to grab any ideas from my build or let me know if I can help you through your build.

Cool! Thanks for the update! Will be tagging along for the build!

Thanks again for the interest

Awesome. Love that tank!

Thanks!!

That looks awesome! Nice build!

Thanks!

Looks really great Manny! Can't wait to see it filled with corals and fish!

Yes, I have a lot of frags in another system ready to go.

It is going to be SPS dominated tank.

Started having a small leak in the bottom front of the tank. They call it a weep. After fighting with manufacturer for over a month they agreed to replace the tank. I pick it up this weekend.

wow!! that sucks.. I would cry. LOL.

what do you think lead to the leak? bad silicone job? the stand?

At least you get a replacement, but I know moving tanks is NO FUN TASK!!
