To preference, I started owning saltwater tanks when I moved to college about 3.5 years ago. Before that I kept freshwater and brackish since I was about 8. Once I tried my hand at saltwater, I immediately fell in love. Being able to watch and grow a small ecosystem is very mesmerizing and baffling to me. I’ve learned a lot but still have a lot to learn, there’s always something to learn in this hobby lol.
The set up this thread is about is a 90 gallon display with a 30 gallon sump filled 2/3, so about 100-110 total gallons. It’s been set up since 1/8/2022. I had a 55 gallon tank with a few coral and some fish that got transferred to the 90 (upgraded due to 55 gallon middle brace flexing) it’s a bare bottom with about 70 lb rock and a refugium with sand. The tank has a 36 Watt jebao UV sterilizer and runs a carbon reactor.
My current livestock is: (in parentheses is their name)
Bristletooth tang (Tea)
Orchid dottyback (purple man)
Pink fairy wrasse (I think) (pink guy but sounds like pinkeye lol)
Longnose hawkfish ( tony)
Snowflake eel (dolph)
Blue regal tang (blue)
Melanarus wrasse (Mel)
The eel, fairy wrasse and dottyback have been in the tank since it started.
Parameters have been:
Calcium: 500
Magnesium: 1450
Alk: 7.8-8.5 dKh
Nitrate: 5-15ppm
Phosphate: .05-.1ppm
Temp: 79 degrees F
Salinity- 1.025
I usually try to do a 15-20 gallon water change on sundays.
I dose magnesium, kalkwasser and np bacto balance
photos are in sequential order from time it started to now.
