This is a start from scratch build with all new gear. I have been in the hobby for quiet some time but took a 10 year break. Coming back in, I saw loads of improvement in equipment so I decided to upgrade all my gear to the last piece. My plan is a heavy SPS dominate tank.

I have chosen to implement things I’m familiar with and came up with a probably a very common hybrid approach. I will be running bare bottom, most of the nutrient uptake will be handled by the fuge, live rock tray, and of course the skimmer.

The chemistry will be handled by a calcium reactor and a kalkwasser stirrer both being dosed out of the top off loop. I will also dose other additives and stuff like amino acids as needed. Water changes will be continuous and automatic via DOS system from Apex

Things are still a complete mess right now and will be until I get all the systems dialed in. Also still waiting on the sump before I can really tie it all together. Looking forward to seeing this all come together !

Equipment:

Tank : IM 200 EXT

Sump: crystal reef 72 TRS

Flow: 2 x COR 20 returns

2 x MP 60

2 x MP 49

Lighting: 3 x Radion XR 30

2x Kessil H160 (refugium)

Filtration: Reef Octo Regal 250 EXT loaded out with cup cleaner and CO2 scrubber. Looking at ways to implement ozone without running a second skimmer now.

Ozone: posidon 200

Chemistry: MRC 818, with 818 second chamber 80/20 calcium/magnesium media.

OCTO 250 kalk stirrer

Apex dosing pumps handle these components.

Control: Apex with 2 energy bars , PM1 for reactor, FMM for flow meters , leak detection snd ATK. ASM for PAR meter and auto feeder.
Trident handles testing.
BRS RODI unit.

Today was pretty eventful. Most all of the electrical is tied in and roughly set up in the apex. Calcium reactor and dosing is online too. My plan is to run both the calcium reactor and the kalkwasser through the DOS system. I am running a 20% mix of magnesium in my calcium reactor. We will see how it works out. I am not buying any more DOS modules , I’m gonna wait for some of the versa’s to become available.
I went ahead and RGBed the rest of the cabinet. Really geeking out.

Big day today ! Sump is on its way, 2 more MP60’s and 3 more XR 30’s. It’s gonna be a fun weekend. I just finished a super crappy TIG job on the stand but she will hold lol.

I guess part of this hobby is overcoming adversity. I managed to salvage the sump with the shipping damage and can breathe until I figure out what to do. The company is going out of business and it was a one only.

since the sump was going to an existing system I was under pressure to get it plumbed. So things are hanging everywhere and now the process of cleaning all that up is incoming.

parameters are pegged and anxiously awaiting my first coral shipment from WWC.

I bought a algae reactor from BRS on sale and I will play with that as well. Thinking of putting it on its on loop from the display since I’m running sort of a triton system with fuge before skimmer.

Love your build! Any updates? Sounds like you're doing 4 mp60's and 2 40's on the back? I have roughly same size display and only have 20 mp60's, been considering adding at least one more. Are you happy you did? Make a big difference?

Not a ton of updates lol. The thread was just me here lol.

The 2 60’s are in the upper left hand and right hand sides towards the back , the other two 60’s are on the back wall towards the top roughy 1/3 spacing. The 40’s are left and right on the bottom of the tank towards the back

Looking back it could be overkill. But the 40’s could not go on the back. The glass plus the black acrylic is about a inch thick.

Pardon the mess.
