Is your UV in a closed loop or off a manifold of the return pump. The pictures look like you have two return pumps. 3/4"?

Also, did you try a different guard on the MP40? I would also like to go with Sand and have SPS tank.

Great thread! I also have an I.M. EXT 100 being delivered any day now. Was debating between the Ice Cap dual 2000 or 4000 and the Nero 5 when I found this thread. It's a wealth of information. Looking forward to the true test of a Nero 5 on these tanks. I'll be following with great interest.

i don't think the 2Ks will work, iirc their magnets are rated for 1/2". 2 4Ks would be pretty sweet tho

nero 5 arrives today sometime so i'll try to remember to update tomorrow

Nero 5 is on and a serious win. It’s so tiny compared to my octopulse lol. Magnet seems quite strong and I had ai primes before so the app setup took about 5 minutes. I highly recommend for the 100g tank size. I turned it up to 100% and it definitely has some power but didn’t blow sand around surprisingly. I’d probably have been better off just going with 2 neros rather than the octopulse but doesn’t hurt to have that thing around once I actually get sps going

Great thread so far. Sorry about your losses. I am getting my Nuvo 100 ext next week. Going to transfer everything from my 46 gallon bow front. Nice to see someone else has Reefi lights. How did you mount them? Mine are currently hanging but the new tank is way wider so my current mounts won't work.

Last thing I have done to the tank is add the jebao dp4 dosing pump and skimz dlc3 containers. I am dosing brs 2 part a long with tropic marin part c (balling method). I also dose brightwell coral aminos daily, and occasionally dose brightwell neonitro and microbacter7 to help keep nitrates and phosphates balanced and in check.

And here is how the tank sits today. I think it has turned out pretty good.

Amazing build! It turned out more than "pretty good." I am envious.

Great thread; I appreciate you taking the time to document your build. I have a 100 EXT with APS stand on preOrder shipping the last week of July. Currently have a 36" acrylic tank which will eventually be replaced by the IM. My configuration will be a bare bottom SPS tank with Marco rocks. From reading this thread, it seems like the new 4K Gyre might work for my setup and much more economical than the four MP40's I was considering. I'll be using a Trigger Sapphire 34 sump and AI Hydra 32HD x 4.
Question: If I build a IM EXT 100 (with aluminum stand from IM), without sump, will it be necessary to do any drilling to incorporate a sump from another supplier? such as the Trigger Sapphire 34 or the Fiji 30 mentioned by others. Does IM include all the necessary plumbing or do I have to design this myself? I am having trouble visualizing it. Thanks in advance.

Currently, IM does not sell the 100 EXT tank without a sump (complete setup) to my knowledge. Regardless, you would not need to drill anything. Take a look at my build thread.

fwiw through stringent research i found out the nero 5's now have a stronger magnet, i don't think BRS has updated their info on them

Specifications
Maximum Glass Thickness0.63in. (16mm)

from AI site
Thanks for doing this research! Nero 5 might be the way I go.
