I’m excited to start plans on my first reef tank. It’s a 55 gallon all in one clear for life, and I have some big plans for it. I’m planning on building it into the kitchen island as we do our kitchen renovation. I’ve included pictures of the kitchen plans as well as a couple pictures of the tank. I just wiped it down today to get some of the calcium build up off. I have 2 Noopsyche pro 2s and one Noopsyche V3 for lighting and plan to get some live rock and sand to start out.(suggestions welcome)…I was thinking of using this thread to post pictures of the project as it goes along. Thanks for checking it out!

Will the tank be flush with the top of the island, or...?
No so the tank side of the island will actually be higher , probably 42-46” , still working that out. …then the back side of the island will be standard countertop height. All having butcher block top

To continue with above question, or will it be the window in front of the sink on the island?
It will be in the space in front of the sink. We’re building a custom box to elevate the tank and two cabinets there so the tank is at an optimal level and then the tank side of the island will end up higher than the sink side

No it will have a butcher block top built into a vanity slide that comes out so I can clean/feed/ect and that will be flush with the other butcher block
Sounds interesting. You'll have to post more mockups of what it will look like with the tank in-place.

Some progress pics :
I did an NSA aqua scape with dry rock , filled the tank with RODI water/salt, live sand, and started the process with Dr. Tim’s and ammonia drops. I’m on day two currently.

*the tank is currently covered and dark and I turned a light on just for the picture

Wow! This is a really neat concept with clean excecution! What sort of livestock do you have?
Thanks, it’s been a journey…I currently have only a clown fish, blue hermit, and emerald crab. I had the tank cycled and running while the renovation was getting done and I got hit with bad cyano. I have my current livestock in a small tank and am just about cycled on the island tank to start fresh with some life rock and other rock I have cycled in a brute for a couple months. The small tank has also gotten the same cyano and I’m worried about transferring anything from it to the new tank. I’ve done regular water changes , I still haven’t been able to pinpoint the cyano cause.
