My Pups Parvovirus Battle

Well, I know there are a lot of animal lovers on here, so I figured I would try to seek help on here as well. I recently purchased a puppy and found out he has parvo. He is not eating or drinking and looks very ill. We have been giving him at home IVs and meds, but he isn't getting better. I am currently sitting in the animal hospital where he is getting admitted. It is going to be very expensive, but I cannot let him die. Thanks for the help and consideration!

Any info or advice is appreciated!

So sorry to hear about your pup. I used to work at an animal hospital and our area has had very high instances of it, so I've seen many pups come in with it. There's not much that can be done other than what you're doing. IV fluids and meds are the pups best bet, but it is a terrible illness and sometimes they just can't make it through. I'll be keeping your pup in my thoughts. I don't really have much to add as far as treatment, but please be aware that it wouldn't be a good idea to get another puppy that is unvaccinated against parvo for a while. I would wait for over a year before I got another unvaccinated dog as parvo is shed by the infected dog and can live on surface that have not been disinfected for about a year, so while a house may be disinfected if anything is missed then the virus could still be present. Outside (ie: the soil) would also have to be decontaminated, so it's best to wait it out to make sure the virus is gone before getting another unvaccinated animal. Puppies aren't fully vaccinated from the virus until they have received series of boosters which is usually complete between four months and 6 months old. Like I said, I hope the best for your pup. I've seen many pups pull through with good care.

Fluids! if you can get an IV with fluids. I did this at home for my golden rethievery. This worked in about 2 days. they wanted to put him down I said no so glad I did.

I had a puppy who got parvo. The vet did not make it sound promising. Puppy couldn't hold anything in either way. My mom took a few days off and came over just to care for him. The vet said the most important thing was hydration. They gave us an electrolyte powder to mix in with his water which we would give him several times a day with a syringe in small amounts sinc he could hold it in. We also had him lick ice cubes as much as he would want. I think about 4 days later he started coming around and eating white rice and chicken. He pulled through! The Vet i took my dig to ran some test and said my dog had parvo. Would Cost about $1200 to save her which at the time money i didnt have. Took her home and she lived another 8 years. There are vet that just wanted to rob you blind.
