Almost every day I am reminded of Miami Reef. Every time I work on my tanks I make sure I am safe. For 30+ years I took if forgranted.

I think most take it for granted many times. Still a shock to me, and didn’t really know Miami on a personal level. RIP to a young good soul! Life’s crazy at times! A good buddy of mine died in a car accident of only 25 mph many years ago. Only for me to go for the ride of my life off a 40’ cliff at 75mph, and survive with only a hyper extended shoulder ligament to be the issue. Life’s something else and learned this early on.

I’ve been very lax about electrical safety for many years now, intrinsically relying on GFCIs/etc…

Over the past few months, I’ve really become skeptical and quite cautious any time I come across used equipment of unknown origin… essentially treating them as electrically compromised until proven otherwise…

BeanAnimal’s mention of doing tank work with one hand behind your back is something I’ve been taking seriously, and working into my repertoire of maintenance habits!

I decommissioned my older heater in favor of a newer Helio heater with a 5 year warranty. It’s still probably the riskiest electrical equipment because it’s not low voltage DC, but I feel it’s safer.

Verified my GFCI and inspected everything. I still think about it every day.

What... how did i not know about this... I was literally asking him questions end of July and he was such a good fellow. Encouraged me to come here to ask questions on the forum so others could benefit from the shared knowledge... such dedication to the betterment of the hobby.
