How do you know when your impeller is broken? I placed some sponge under my pump and it was completely silent no noise. Then I added a skimmer and thought the rattling was from that after turning that off and the rattling continued I'm sure it is the return pump now. It's pumping fine just rattling and very annoying

Did you try taking it apart to clean? Sometimes detritus can get caught in the impeller shaft which can cause a rattle

Not problem, I have had to clean mine before as well as skimmer pump to fix rattling noises
