Just curious as to what everyone thinks here. If you buy a wild Chalice colony off of Ebay or another online vendor and they have a "generic" name with it in the advertisement is it acceptable for the buyer to rename it with a better fitting name?

I would think so, I mean 99% ebay sellers import import import and just slap a name on it to sell it..... People on ebay see the Zonker super rare monkey butt chalice, and are more incline to jump on it. It's pure marketing.

Now that is hilarious! You bought it you name it in my opinion. Now if its a well known "brand" coral then you still could rename it(I like George myself), but why would you want to.

The way I see it the purpose of a name is to identify it as it gets spread around to other reefers. If its a wild colony it hasn't been spread around yet so name it what you want, you're the originator.

Wow, that was pretty off topic. You must be angry.

I say if you purchased it, you name it.

I would say it is ok to rename it as long as you come up with a decent name. Otherwise its a wasted effort lol.
