Naso Tang

So I purchased this naso tang from a LFS.
Quarantined him alone for 4 weeks.
Looked healthy, not stressed out from the move anymore and eating well.

Moved him to my display tank and after about a week, he started showing small white flakes on his tail. After doing some research, found it was probably a virus and there was nothing I could do besides vitamins and garlic guard.
After 2 weeks, he started looking worse so I pulled him out of my display tank and back in the hospital tank with fresh saltwater.
Last night he seemed to be struggling to breathe so I gently held him in front of a powerhead to help him get some oxygen and “clean out his gills”.
Yes I know it probably didn’t do anything but it was worth a shot I guess.
This morning he was dead.
Any ideas or pointers would be appreciated.

Do you know the history of the tang before you got it? Had the dealer held it and treated for anything?

Lots of larger naso tangs are coming in and dying from unknown issues - bacterial or viral, we don’t know, but the 40 day mortality rate is a lot higher than it used to be.

For the future, if you’re going to hold fish in a QT, you should proactively treat with Coppersafe and praziquantel - takes about the same amount of time, but eliminates common parasitic diseases.

How do the other fish in your DT look?

I did treat with copper.
I haven’t heard of the other thing.

My display tank fish are all doing well.
It leads me to believe that he had a parasite or something.

This fish looks to be a candidate of an ongoing issue of at least 2 years with the Blondes in particular eating, sort of and then stop eating, waste away and eventually weaken until death. It is unfortunate and sorry for the loss
