Hey! My nassarius snails have been breeding like crazy and the babies are literally everywhere… My filter roller is filled with tens of dead baby snails that wen’t inside and caused it to roll. My pumps are stuck 3-4 times a day… It’s driving me crazy and they just layed another batch…

I got a 5G AIO I can set up for them. At night most of them are on the glass so I can scrape them off and put them in the 5G. The only thing is I currently have no sand or rocks I can put in the 5G. Is this bad? Cause the snails are TINY. I can drop in some food once a day to feed them (I’m going to trade them for store credit once they are bigger).

Another question is setting up the 5G tank. If I put some ceramic media in my DT for a few hours, and then put it in the 5G and fill it with DT water, will this cause an instant cycle or does it take longer?

Putting snails in a 5 g is not bad.
Cycling rocks takes time. A few hours isn’t really enough to establish bacteria colonies. It’s always better to have rubble rock in a sump or in the substrate as a spare, in case you need it.
It’s a good sign that your tank is healthy. Maintaining parts is the toughest part

Yea I threw some ceramics into my main tank and I’ll just let it soak for a few days then. And waterchanges in the snail tank will be done with dirty main tank water to keep some nutrients there (and ofcourse feed the snails).

My filterroller is going insane with all the baby snails clogging it so I’ll probably just soak whatever is left of that roll in my main tank till I can throw it in the snail one. Sadly lost a lot of baby snails inside the roll and inside the filter but nothing to do about that, espacially with a new batch on the way. Luckly I had a 5G aio kit I bought months ago still in the box never used. Wanted it to be a frag tank but a snail tank for now will suffice.

Now I just gotta hope my LFS will trade for store credit…

Would it work if I’d take out some shells from my DT?

Had a dozen plus 2-1/2 years plus and only snails that bred for me were margaritas. Nassarius were very hardy otherwise. Be great if these were Nassarius but seems not typical in the hobby
