Hi everyone, a couple of weeks ago I noticed a little bit of algae growing on one of my rocks. I knew it was a macro right away not gha or anything of that sort. I pulled out as much as I could during a water change and didn’t think much of it. It must have been on a frag or in my live rock. Anyway I just got back from a week vacation and it has completely taken over. It’s all over the rocks, coral, and rooting in the sandbed.

I’m pretty sure it’s caulerpa sertularioides because it sends out runners and grows those fern like leaves. My tank is a IM 15 cube. Anyone have tips for getting rid of it, what might eat it etc. Or will I have to resort to chemical treatment? Thanks

Remove the rocks if possible and manually remove the rhizomes
If there’s no rhizome there’s nothing to grow from.

I had that take over a tank when I started in the early eighties, then added some yellow tangs and it went away. Not sure what will eat enough of it in a smaller tank.

I wish I could go that route haha… hopefully some day. But yeah my snails definitely aren’t touching it it’s just too big for them. Maybe a urchin or sea hare?

Does anyone know if any of the algaecides would work? I really don’t want to go that route but I feel like this stuff might just take over the tank forever otherwise
