I have sca 150 gallon tank that’s been up for 6-7 months. I just recently started putting some corals a purple stylo, forest fire digi, and another no name acro. I also put a hammer and 2 acans. Long term I’m going for a spa dominant tank but right now I just threw those pieces in as testers to see how they do. I have a problem tho. I just got ick and I’m pulling all my fish out for a 90 day qt. Am I going to have a harder time with growing corals now that I won’t have any fish in the tank???

You’ll need to go fallow in the DT for 76 days. You can continue to ghost feed your corals and inverts. Just don’t over do it because there aren’t any fish in there.

How many times a week do you think? Should I starts putting something like reed roid mixed with my food?? Right now I feed everyday and switch between pellets and lrs.

No, I feed my coral once to twice a week tops. You can drop a few pellets in for any crabs etc or a little mysis if you want.

Just to understand this. You haven’t seen any ich for four months? If this is the case I would set up a qt for all new fish. Get one tang or fish of choice through qt to make sure it doesn’t have anything. Then I’d put it in the display. You’ll know soon enough if ich is present in your display. It’s pretty stressful to rip apart your tank to catch fish. If your new fish gets ich then qt all of them. Just a thought of possibly less time and work for you.

+1 And also, keep an eye on your nitrates. If they get too low, it can stunt coral growth and cause algae issues (ghost feeding adds phosphates but not nitrates) Sometimes during a long fallow period, you might need to dose a source of nitrate as well, like stump remover or flourish. Especially in a newer tank that doesn’t already have nitrates accumulated or low-nutrient systems.

Even tho that the majority of the fish are wrasses? 2 flames, earmuff, Moyer, sunburst anthius, goby and a Blenny. I do have a chevron that just finished qt just haven’t put him in because Of the ick

Freshwater black mollies are good indicator fish, if you’d like to try acclimating one. They have no immunity to saltwater diseases and the black color makes it easy to spot parasites.

Though, if you saw ich 4 months ago and never treated... chances are it is still there. Especially with a tank full of wrasses who are often difficult to observe symptoms, due to their thick slime coats.

I know this thread is old but have a question for ngoodermuth. I just started my fallow period about a week ago. Not knowing any better until now, I was continuing to feed my tank twice a day (mainly due to not wanting my shrimp to starve). I will now slow down my feeding. Now my question, you've confused me (easy to do), because I thought HIGH nitrates would cause my beginning algae (had none before fallow), but above you suggest Algae would be caused by low nitrates. I'm sure I'm wrong, but could you explain why?
