So, my 6 year old Blackberry Bold has finally gone kaput. I generally only text/talk on my phone, but I probably should get with the times & buy a phone that can do more. ;) I wanna just buy an unlocked phone off Amazon or something, so I don't have to sign a new contract with AT&T. Don't wanna break the bank either. Would like to keep this $200-$300.

Suggestions?

Duno what they're worth in the US but I love my iPhone 4S :)
You could easily pick up a second hand one for less than $300.

I have a iPhone 6 and love it. AT&T have a finance plan so you don't have to put the money down up front.

Depends on your carrier, but I purchased my girlfriend a ZTE Zmax.. Very nice and inexpensive smartphone. For the money, I would go with that because I like large phones. If I were looking for a basic smart device on a budget, probably the 2014 Moto G. Either of those two are really nice devices to get your feet wet in "true" smart phones at a very inexpensive price..

If your looking for financed and best of the best, note 4 or edge or the HTC M series without a doubt right now(in the Android world, and the notes are top, as far as compared to Apple too) . Financed, they are in that range and best of the best in the market. The notes though, heavy as far as what it can do, but there is a learning curve. But it can do more by far than any other phone on the market..

Thank you everyone for the suggestions! I think I'm zeroing in on the Samsung Galaxy S4 or S5. Although, I'd love to play with a Moto G for a few mins just to be sure of my decision... but my local Best Buy/AT&T store doesn't seem to have those in stock. :(

My iPhone 5 was only $199 at best buy :)

That is with a contract. He does not want to sign a new contract.

The sad part is the Nexus 5 was the last phone you could have bought new at the $300 price point as an unlocked phone. Now you can only buy used unlocked phones for that ballpark. Otherwise plan on spending $500-$700 for a new unlocked smartphone.

Now if you're ok with going off brand knockoffs, you can get several smartphones for under $300.

http://www.focalprice.com/MH1229B/J...S_1280x720_Android_4.4_MTK6582_Quad_core.html $130 for a dual 4g band smart phone. And it has a dual sim card slots, so if you travel out of the country a lot that is super useful.

Note: If linking to other websites is against the rules just swap the link to Focal price.

I rarely talk or text except with the wife...we are in contact :) do use Internet but not excessively but my favorite thing about my last few phones was the camera. Always had it with me and talk about amazing shots. I have a dslr also I rarely use for pics.lol guess depends on what ya want out of it.
all my last phones were samsung galaxies - they take a sweet pic and not a bad phone - has all the bells and whistles - check out the 4

I'm avec mobile again. I ended up going with an unlocked Moto G for $180 off Amazon. Thanks for all the help/suggestions.
