was gone for work for 2 days, came back last night and noticed my tang has what appears to be blisters around the dorsal fin, what parameters are right on but I have no idea what this is or how to treat, tang has also been breathing very heavy. All help is very appreciated!
Hippos are notorious for wedging them self’s into rock work and cut there bodies up. Could pull the fish a do a methylene blue dip to help with the cuts. Here is a good article to help!
Methylene Blue What It Treats – Healing agent which treats ammonia burn, abrasions, cuts. Mild antiparasitic/antibacterial properties. Will possibly detoxify a fish that has been exposed to cyanide poisoning. Probably one of the best “first response” treatments for a sick fish. How To Treat –...
I'm worried it fin rot, my melanarus wrasse also has a small white spot on the base of its tail fin too, my wife also told me the tang issue got worse from the first day to the second while I was gone. I've never dealt with fin rot nor seen it so I'm just trying to tread water here and hopefully not lose any fish. The tang seems to be very stressed but not the wrasse.
Well my ammonia is 0, nitrites are 0.25 ppm and nitrates are 1ppm, ph is 8. I just did a water change last Wednesday salinity is at 35, everything else in the tank is happy including corals. Whats a qt? Sorry if that sounds stupid to ask.
Also have a foxface, 2 blue devil damsels, 6 blue/green chromis, purple dotty, royal grammar, lyretail anthia, psychedelic drag, dragon goby, 2 clowns and small cuc
QT is a quarantine tank. Basically where you can isolate fish for situations like this to help a fish heal. Plus only medications will only be dosed in Qt.
There is not much to a qt.
Any 10g 20g tank will do.
Need a filter, and an air pump and stone.
Most medications depleat oxygen in the water.
A 2 inch PVC 90 or T.
You want it cycled.
Sent the picture to my lfs owner/buddy and he says its fin rot and to treat with melafix, I trust his judgment as his business partner is a veterinarian and he has been in the hobby for 40+ years i appreciate the input and will let you know the outcome, hopefully a happy one!
Well looks like my blue tang went to the fish tank in the sky, rip Dory. Definitely not the ending I was hoping for. Called the lfs I bought the tang at a week ago and let them know about the fin rot, they got very defensive even though I placed no blame and told me it was a heads up call to look out for it. Very disappointing wishing i knew what I know now but 4 days earlier.
