Need help with compacting a toadstool leather

I have had this green toadstool for almost a year now. It has stretched tall and I would like to shorten it and move it. Here is the toadstool in question.

My question is, if I cut it at the red line in the picture below, will the remaining stump grow a new cap?

It’ll take sometime, but yes it will regrow just fine.

Yup it will. Broke mine off by accident during a tank transfer. Only left a .25” stump. I figured it would get eaten of fall off. 2 months later and he’s got tiny little goose bumps growing.
