This was my first attempt. Looking for any suggestions as I am still learning. Thanks

Those plates look out of place because they are a different kind of rock from the rest of your rocks and also because they create straight lines.

Hope you could help. I've been at this for a few days and am still unsure. My tanks a 4x2 x2 120. Here's what I have so far. I defiantly want a small rock up front to make a zoa garden to try to keep it in one place. Thoughts? Tips?

Keeping each structure as it is, have you tried placing the bigger one in the middle but off centre?

@Ardeus, I finally set my tank up and today I purchased the bulk of my rock. I would love to hear your opinion (though I reserve the right to let mine prevail :)). I just got it in and plan on tweaking the shelf rock along the bottom. For now I am interested in your thoughts on the two main structures, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am really loving the protrusions and shapes in the large rock top left.

This below is the rock I had been curing previously before adding the three large rocks today.

There are several more pictures and angles in my build thread in this post:

Thank you in advance!

The 2 structures look good by themselves. The only little rocks I would keep would have to be placed in a way like they have fallen from the bigger structures.

@Ardeus thank you for helping so many with our aquascapes. I have been working on my scape for almost a year in hopes of upgrading from 125 g to 180 g. If the upgrade doesn't happen, I would like to use this in the 125g replacing what I have in there now. I won't be adding any other corals than what I currently have. As much as I love corals, I love the look of the rocks as well and I don't want to completely hide the structures. I like to think of it like landscaping. I don't want to hide my house, I want to give it curb appeal. Below are pictures of what I've been working on and a pic taken tonight of my current tank with the corals I will be using. Thank you in advance for your help.

Amazing work there in every way. The structures look seamless, interesting and the 2 canyons are different. I really love what you achieved.

I'm mostly satisfied with my scape, but could always use some suggestions on improving it. The tank is 6', so I couldn't really do a sand level, mid level, and surface level picture and still get the whole tank in the picture. Hoping these will suffice.

I like the aquascape too. My only suggestion is to try to keep the areas between the 2 structures clean and open.

Thank you for your help. I thought I might need some more height on one of the structures but I think I will go ahead and epoxy these so I don't lose what I have. I might have a few more pieces of rock already in use with zoanthids that I might have to incorporate into this scape so I could gain some height that way. Thanks again @Ardeus

Here's a suggestion for a minor change (move that coral so that area is open):

And here's a suggestion for a bigger change

Hello Ardeus. I have been reading posts from the forum for a while but I finally had decided to sign up... because of your thread! I am currently setting up a peninsula tank and would really appreciate if you could give me some advice on the aquascape

The tank dimension is 3x2x2ft. There is a 15cm internal overflow box on the wall side. Plan to have a mix sps and lps reef

Thanks a lot!

Ardeus,

This is my Reefer 425xl. I like my rock layout, but coral placement and future growth are what I’m struggling with. I have a beautiful large Torch coral that’s been banished to the end/side of tank. Everywhere I put him, he manages to stretch far enough to attack other corals. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

I think that although at the moment it doesn't look cohesive, when it's covered with coral it will look very good.

Right now it's a pile of rocks and you can see each of them, it's not seamless, but the corals will solve that. I honestly think you built a good foundation. There's plenty of free space and most of the layout is suspended.

The challenge is to choose and place corals in a way that keeps open areas free.

You will have to keep that torch at the edge of the rockwork, as it grows it will be even more difficult to place anywhere else.

I like the rock layout. Because there's so much rock, I would try to move the wellsophyllia out of there because it's breaking that big white bay.

If you feel more adventurous, here's an idea.

I have made some modifications after seeing your video. I am trying to add more curves and to create bay on both sides.

I think the 1st layout is better.

On the 2nd, there are 3 structures with the same height and the 2 separations between them are the same.

Different heights and distances will make it work.
