Hello Ardeus,

just started cycling my WB20 after being away from the hobby 10 yrs. Any input of what could improve my scape before filling cube with critters.

It looks good, but depending on the type of corals you will put there it may be too full already.

If the left rock isn't supporting anything, you can try moving it close to the front glass. The idea is to have 2 structures and increase the dramatic effect of the overhang on the right. Don’t be afraid to put big structures right in front.

But the problem, aestheticly speaking are these flat lines. You can improve that scape by changing them, right now it's too flat both in depth and in height.

Would like some help with this 55 gal tank. Need help or ideas or input on the aquascape. I need to upgrade the light fixture and eventually add coral. Thank you.

Any advice on this scape? Looking to be nearly 100% SPS. I need to be considerate of lower-level shadowing.

I'm not terribly happy with the left side. And the front right rock is nearly touching the glass and will need to be shifted back. Also not crazy about the rear of the left bridge rock as it's facing the overflow box and feels like dead space for coral.

NOTE: I will be running 2 mp10s and 1 mp40 to maximize flow, and there will be a 1-1.5inch sandbed.

What do you think of this scape? Unnatural? Too much rock?

Just kidding. This is a tremendous thread. I've spent a lot of time looking at my own dive photos and videos and those online capturing real reefs. There seems to be a big disconnect in the way we 'scape and the way natural coral reefs form.

I am planning a tank that is still being built, 72x30x25 viewable on two sides. Have tons of rocks in my garage (dry) and cooking in bins in my fishroom and no idea how to arrange them. My sketch is here:

Based on your comments I am re-thinking the structure on the right, maybe will do a bay there that faces the side.

Hi just wanted some ideas about my scape and what placement or what coral I can add to make it look like some of the amazing mixed reef tanks I’ve seen on here. Lights have just turned on so everything is shrivelled up lol

It's too symmetric.

Here's an idea: join those 2 arches in a single structure making them overlap. It will also add depth to the tank.

I would try the larger arch in front and the smaller at the back.

You can add a small island on the other side.

I would just remove the small rock at the left and keep that area open to let the scape breath a little, because although the rock structure is interesting, it already fills a lot of the tank.

That big structure on the right is blocking that whole side. I woukd try removing the small island right in the centre and rotate that swim through/ overhang and shift it towards the centre.

It's a part of the hobby that it's very much worth investing some time in learning.

I see aquascaping techniques mostly as a tool to help each one of us to build aquascapes we like.

We all know immediately what we like and don't like, but we have great difficulty in creating something we like.

Ardeus,

Wow! This is a great topic and can be extremely challenging especially if attempting to aquascape by yourself with all the angles.

you have a good eye ... what do you think about this layout in my 120 gallon ?
