need input on plubming a dual herbie corner 6'

So here is a quikc drawing I made up to help explain myself better.

The left side I think ill be abble to do fine no issue, but the right, how am I supposed to connect that siphon pipe into my filter socks, 6' away!?

The drop will probably be 15" or so (40 breeder is 16", internal room inside cabbinent is 30 ish.

Unless I suck at math, I dont think a 45* can cover 72" with a drop of that little.

Any input or other ideas will be GREATLY appreciated!!
 
I may be speaking out of line here as I don’t do pictures but it sounds like you want a drain to traverse six feet horizontally with limited vertical height difference? A swing joint at either end should work. A swing joint being two 90° elbows (typically a “street” 90 which is male x female, connected to a traditional 90). This allows for infinite adjustment of angle.

pretty much yeah... and its more like a 20" vertical drop across 70"

i think i see what you mean do you recommended unions on this portion?
 
The secret? Two elbows in a row (90, 90 or 45, 45 or 90, 45), making the plumbing 3D!

You test fit using short scrap pipe stubs not fully seated in fitting sockets (the only thing that matters is the distance between fitting lips from a final pipe length standpoint)… once you get the angle of each elbow fitting clocked perfectly to get the drain running where you need it to go, mark the pipe/fittings each with sharpie “indexing line” so they can be reassembled clocked exactly the same way with pipe cement!

Also, how do you feel about to have pvc support brackets?

Oh! That just seems to help them burp air a bit easier!

— the primary drains need to be submerged in the sump to maintain a continuous/reliable siphon, but submerging the plumbing too far can create “back pressure”!

— this “back pressure” can trap air bubbles in the drain line in some plumbing designs, causing the drain to not really work much, at all, until the line finally gets flushed of air!

— the 45 cut just ensures that one corner of the pipe sits closer to the surface to burp air, it’s really not strictly necessary!

Also, how do you feel about to have pvc support brackets?
PVC pipe should definitely be supported! I took those photos prior to finishing up with pipe straps/etc!

— surface mount U straps, or adjustable long stem surface mount pipe clamps work excellent here, use at least two per-pipe if they aren’t going directly from A to B with no 90 elbows, so a single support doesn’t act like the fulcrum of a pipe lever!

My thoughts exactly! Yellow tinted transparent acrylic for all panels except the viewing pane of each… both my LFS and I thought it was severe UV damage for years, until I got a good look at the clear to yellow tinted weld joints, and saw the distinct transition line!

Someone’s “million dollar idea” from the 90’s would be my guess… 😆

Is there any reason you made that input chamber/sock defuse area so large, or is it just because you could?
Im thinking of doing something alike, but just a few inch wide prob 3-4 and then overflow into my socks

I did it just because I could; I had spare space, and the LFS wanted 7” socks, so I made the drain chamber a tad larger than necessary to make getting a caulking gun in there easier!

(I’d silicone from the other side in hindsight, but I wanted the weird sock holder to be siliconed in at the same time as the dam baffle for silicone bond strength between the two parts!)

Hey, would two 90s make a full siphon rather difficult?

Should I have a 45° coming out, and a 90 out of that for best way to purge all air?

I’ve had decent luck using two 90s, and it definitely makes the plumbing less complex!

You can always swap it out later at a union for a 45 if you run into air purge issues! — each plumbing scenario is a bit different, so your milage may vary here!
