I have a 40g breeder and change out 5g/wk with daily AWC with an apex DOS. I make new saltwater every week, but by the end of the week the saltwater in the AWC bucket smells a little musty. Do I need a circulation pump for a storage container this small and for no more than one week of storage? If so, what pump would you recommend for a 5g bucket? And should I run it 24/7? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

I have a similar setup, I use a cheap pump from menards works great for my 5g bucket. I run it 24 hours to make sure the salt is good and mixed initially. Then I have it turn on for 15 minutes every hour to keep good circulation.

What size pump do you have? Where did you get it?

I’ve got a bunch of pumps very similar to these for my 5g buckets. Work well got them all at my local menards.

Do you think the 140gph is enough for a 5g bucket? I don’t have a menard’s here but I’m sure I could get a tetra pump on Amazon.

I can’t remember what gph my pumps are but maybe try and get into the 300 gph range.

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
