Need some help

Hello. I did a tank upgrade this summer and had all of my zoas in another tank. About 1/2 of the zoa plugs have this black coating on them and they are so shrunken and won't open. Can anyone identify the black coating? Wondering if this was the cause of the shrinking.

You will need a microscope to identify the growth. Could be multiple species.

The cause might be the effect here. Zoa’s dying might be encouraging this dark growth.

Thanks Dan. If I were to get a microscope, what would I be looking for? This is a bit out of my realm. Appreciate the help!!

I looks like it to me and a peroxide bath won't hurt even if it isn't. lol
