Let's recap today -

On way home from work a rock cracked my windshield - a star that spread out by 10 inches by the time I got home.

Once home checked on tank and saw white marks on a acro - pulled it, dipped it to find I have aefw.

Thunder storms came through knocked out the power - once the power came back on I came to find out the power outage fried one of my apex energy bars. Not in warranty period any longer.

Thanks for listening!

Aw man. I’m sorry my friend. Some days just punch a person in the proverbial gut.

hope things start turning around. What sort of power bar? In the meantime I know there are a bunch of smart power bars that don’t break the bank; from the hydros to those offered on amazon. Maybe one of those would be a moderately suitable substitute for the time being?

Are you in the US? It’s different per state, but many states with even basic insurance, will get you a free windshield replacement.

fwiw I’ve used safelite, it was free, and super fast.

I swear when I lite my bbq just now I backed away quickly after lighting it. Lol ... It a apex energy bar, so not a quick fix, most likely I'll have to pay them to repair.

I can go through my insurance but I'll have to pay my deductible from what Progressive told me earlier. The glass won't be $500 installed. Quote from safelite said $423.

yeah I figured it might have been an apex. Maybe try and find a used one in good condition? Seems like lots of people have been selling their systems on here recently. Otherwise yeah, do you friend. Sorry you have had such a crap day. But we’re here for ya

What is fried about the energy bar? What is it doing or not doing?
None of the outlets will click on or off. The bar lights up but outlets are inop. From what I read it's the AC/DC converter that fried from the power outage. I tired updating software, unplugging and waiting, along with checking the fuse on the back of the bar. I entered a support ticket but I know what the answer will be.

Mine did the same after n outage. I replaced that buck converter for like $5. Good as new. Can you solder? Where are you located?

I'm in Jersey... I can solder but not a pro at all. Where did you get this part? Do you have a diy?

You can get them on Amazon or eBay. I have one, but I’m in MD. (Work in cockeysville, and live in Pasadena) not sure if it’s worth the drive for you.

Neptune usually offers to sell you a new or refurbished for cheaper than the price of a new one if that’s easier.

Sorry about your crappy day. There's a guy on R2R @_AV who's really good at fixing electrical stuff including all things Apex. He might be able to fix your powerbar for cheap. Also, I decided against using the new EB832s when I upgraded my old Apex. I stuck with the classic powerbars I already had and even bought another. You can find them for pretty cheap on message boards, etc. and I've read that they're MUCH more reliable than the new energy bars. I've never had an issue with my old ones for 10 years despite living in a place with more power issues than Kabul

Yeah, sounds like the 12v power supply inside the EB832 got fried. I do not recommend swapping actual PSU modules as the replacement is of the same low quality. But as a temporary solution, it will work.

In case it is useful the last time I needed a new windshield I used safelite. My deductible was more than the cost so insurance was useless. I went through safelite questionnaire twice on their website. First time I said to use my insurance even though I knew I’d pay foe it all out of pocket anyway. Second time I said pay cash. The price they quoted me for cash was $100 less than to go through insurance. Just in case you’re in the same boat as me. If your i deductible is too high then don’t let them do an insurance claim. They charge a lot for the paperwork and it wasn’t gonna do anything anyway. Sorry about your day too. When it rains it pours. Hope you got all the bad luck out at once.
