I've had my Neptune Trident NP since February 2026, and recently it has started giving me some pretty inaccurate readings. For example, my Hanna Checker shows nitrate at around 4.5 ppm, while the Trident NP consistently reads over 20 ppm.

I've tried recalibrating it multiple times, but the readings are still way off. I finally submitted a support ticket to Neptune on October 11, hoping they could help me troubleshoot the issue or provide a solution. Unfortunately, I didn't receive a response until today, October 19.

I've attached a screenshot of their response below.

I can understand their explanations about reagent expiration and calibration timing. However, what I really don't understand is why the Trident NP should only perform one action per day, either a test or a calibration. To me, that seems like a pretty ridiculous limitation for an automated testing system, especially considering how much this equipment costs.

To be honest, I'm pretty disappointed with both the product and the customer support experience so far. The Trident NP is definitely not a cheap piece of equipment, and I think it's reasonable to expect reliable performance and better troubleshooting support for the price we're paying.

I'm curious to hear from other reefers. Have any of you experienced similar accuracy issues with the Trident NP? Were you able to resolve them? And what do you think about Neptune's recommendation to perform only one action per day?

I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences and opinions!

I’ve had my ups and downs with my NP. Accuracy has not been a significant issue, but I’ve had to learn a few things along the way.

For starters, I recommend to not use the reagent tray. Regardless of how carefully you insert the tray, an ever so slightly kinked line will cause inaccuracy. I have removed the tray, set one reagent bottle in the device and the other two sit off to the side.

Also, I’ve had one bad set of reagents. The reagent did not show any signs of degradation or expiration, but nitrate would not budge off zero with Hanna at 7. Changed reagents, and unit bounced to 6.8.

I have zero clue why they are advising against multiple tests per day. I would question what technical basis this advice is based on. In fact, Neptune recommended to me that you run a calibration shortly after a test to ensure the freshest water was in the unit when you calibrate against your Hanna reading.

I’ve used the calibration a few times, but I’ve only used the manually entered calibration. I’ve heard negatives about the calibration solutions.

Wish you luck, hope this helps.
