Neptune COR20. How long do they realistic last?

I have had mine running for maybe 6yrs now. Maintenance every 6 months. It just seems to get louder and louder. The whine is becoming unbearable. Honestly I'm pretty tired of it. What would be a better pump to replace with. Reefer250.

I'm guessing you're past the expected life of the product...controllables don't tend to last as long as non-controllables. ("DC" vs "AC")

If Neptune offers service parts, consider replacing the impeller – usually that's the main wearable part, and often a pump will be "like new" with a new impeller. If the shaft and bearings are a separate offering, consider replacing them too.

Otherwise...

Do you use the controllable features? If not, an AC pump would be a better replacement. Lifeguard (same as SIcce) are some of the quietest, Mag one of the toughest. A classic Eheim hobby pump would even be a great fit for a tank that size.

• Sicce Synca Silent 2.0
• Mag 3 or 5
• Eheim 1260 (or newer 2100)

Those all offer solid warranties if you decide to replace with something "better".

Worth repeating though, replacing the impeller in your current pump is usually a smart move....and it's not usually expensive if it does turn out to be a bad pump and not just the impeller.

I appreciate the detailed reply. Do you know if the impeller replacement for that COR 20 comes with the ceramic bearing that lives in the back of the pump right behind the impeller?
