Good morning all, i wanted to know is it worth getting the Neptune Dos and DDR? I'm doing a coral tank with fish and i didnt want to waste money on getting things that i really don't need. I wanted to see your thoughts on it. Thanks in advance

I have a Dos and older bubble magus dosing heads. They both have their place in my 2 systems. A 210 and a 54G

The Dos I use on my 210G for Auto water changes, Kalk dosing(210G) and going to implement ATO eventually. These 2 dos are installed in my basement with both the AWC / mixing station drums and Kalk storage using a custom 60ft cable.. The Dos works great for this, easy to monitor and change on the fly if needed. I also use the apex to monitor my mixing station so they go hand in hand. But I don't think they would be worth using for individual dosing unless you are running the trident and auto dosing. Lots of people do use them individually though.

On my 54g I use a bubble magus 3 head doser with 2 part b-ionic. Stupid simple to program and does exactly as I tell it. 20ml daily split into 4 dosing currently. Test the ALK / Cal weekly and tweak when needed.

I am looking for a third Dos so I can start doing AWC on the 54G.

I run A2 pros on both systems and a apex classic JR on my mixing station. I picked up an A3 Pro with a system and wound up selling it because it didn't get me anything over my A2s. I also have a spare A2 pro on the shelf.

If you are buying new go for the A3. If you are like me and buy everything used then go A2 pro.

In my mind the A3 Pro was not up upgrade to the people who already own an A2 Pro but a new shiny package for people who do not have a controller to get one.

The DDR is a waste in my mind. I use 1L square water bottles and a 3d printed bracket to hold my 2-part and when i was dosing Kalk locally to my tank I used a 5G bucket because i was pushing 1.5G daily

I run the dos for 2 part. I think the ddr is a waste of money. You could use any jug. The dos is expensive but you can change anything you dos at anytime. But if you don’t mind manually setting up a doser or changing the amount then you could choose any other doser

Sounds like maybe you are new to the hobby? If so, you pretty much summed up the honest reply by stating getting things you really don't need or wasting money.

In short, you can manually dose additives or simply do water changes to meet initial demand(s) while getting experience under your belt. As you progress you will get a better understanding of what you want to do and how. This is when you make these decisions. It will save you money in the long run. More so if you decide it is not your jam.

Likely you need more time, getting a feel for parameters/swings in your tank, but if fairly new there's almost no reason to dose anything unless you're also going for a no water changes setup.

Kamoers are good dosers as well if you don't want to get locked in to the neptune ecosystem.

I used to have DOS units, they worked well.
