My rainbow milli,,,playing out at the end of a branch (middle bottom of pic)as if it were i)on something solid instead of just branching out,,,maybe lighting has something to do with it

Looks like a milli to me. Corals will do this often when there's no rock to encrust to.
 
He is asking about the growth in the bottom center of the photo. The one branch started plating out like a monti cap.
 
Looks like a milli and I have never seen that before either. Nice coral though.
 
For example. This piece grew out in a Birdsnest colony. It has since been moved and has glue underneath it, but you can see how the bottom started to plate out because there wasn't much to encrust to.

Same thing happening with this piece. Hard to get a good pic because of the location, but it has a plate growing off the edge of the plug forming a base. Again this piece is basically suspended with no rock to encrust on.
