Drilled the bottom of the overflow today, that was a bit stressful..
never drilled through glass before.
in order to get the holes exactly where I wanted, I 3D printed some jigs for easy alignment and to hold the drill in place.
the four triangles allows alignment on the cross marking I made with a sharpie.
turned out nice!

Welcome to R2R Liron Mishal and what an awesome entrance on the forum good sir.

Man, it has been several years since my last build from scratch and I'm glued to the thread. (no pun) I don't know how I've missed it up until now.

Following along with your build thread and really like how you've shown and explained the details.

~Cheers~

BTW you should present this in the build thread section because you definitely deserve a Build Thread Contributor ribbon for this.

@Captain Quint
Thanks man, I appreciate it
I actually started this thread to get some comments on what I'm doing wrong :)
But I guess that it also became a nice build log to look back at as time goes by

I'm pretty new here, I thought this was the place for build threads.. ;Wideyed

Kind of hard to critique such a good looking, well thought out/planned build. ;)

You posted this in Members Tanks my new friend.

Got the laser cut parts for my roll filter!
Came out real nice! Glued everything together using chloroform, waiting for the motor to arrive from china.
This is how it looks at the moment

I also glued the overflow box to the tank, I'll remove the zip ties after the silicone sets and fill in the gaps.

I think I can start the tubing tomorrow evening, I keep you posted

Progress!
Got the tank drilled for the return lines. I think I figured out how to prevent the glass from chipping at the end of the drill
I clamped a 5mm piece of glass at the back.
Came out nearly perfect

Got the plexiglass background from the laser cutting. Drilled it too. It is a black 4mm plexiglas, the cover film is still on until I'll finish the rock structure.

Now that the holes are done, we got it in our house and started the plumbing and placing everything

The tape marks how deep the pipe shout be in the fitting,
The marking is for the orientation of the fitting. Everything is dry fitted before starting to glue.
I should be done by tomorrow evening and should be putting water in on Saturday

@Dubs83 thanks!
The roller filter is basically a box with holes cut in the bottom plate.
I designed it with cad and sent to laser cutting.
It is not complete yet, so honesty I can be sure it will work without further modifications
I will post a detailed description once I'll get it running, still waiting for the motor

Couldn't resist and made a trip to the lfs and bought 30lbs of dry Indonesia rocks.. I'll be rinsing them with ro water but until then, I'll have some fun! Covers didn't arrive yet hence the less than beautiful pictures

Sorry for not updating for a while, got busy with boring plain work..
so, got some more rocks and cured them in a 100L bucket. after testing the water parameters for a while, the ammonia started to get low but the nitrite was off the chart.
I remember reading somewhere that if the nitrite or ammonia gets too high, it can stall the cycle, so I decided to continue the curing inside the tank where there's much more water and the concentration will be much lower.
so, to the final assembly:
got the back cover film off and the sand in with some rocks and started to check out different aquascaping

after being somewhat happy with the arrangement, I started to fill it up with the RODI water.
notice all the dirt from the sand even after rinsing it 10 times in a bucket prior putting it in the tank

heres what's underneath the tank, stand lights are on. sorry for all the electrical mess, I plane on tidy things up tonight.
20181222_210853.jpg

the skimmer is the BB A8, VERY happy with it! already skimming like a champ and it seems like it didnt need to be broken in
20181225_071933.jpg

20181225_071938.jpg

next, it was time to battle the different noises as the tank is right in my living room.
I found that I had two sources of noise. the first one was the water falling from the DT into the overflow box.
easy fix, I increased the tubes height in the overflow so the water level would not be so low. worked great! (emergency line is still not trimmed)
20181225_071951.jpg

second source of noise was the water falling from the main chamber to the pump chamber in the sump.
I added a glass panel in an angle so the water could just flow on top of it and gently flow to the water line. it works, but I need to glue it into place.
there are some changes that I would like to investigate, I may be building a new sump in the near future..
20181225_072011.jpg

So, after running for few days, its time to test the water parameters again.
everything came out low except for the nitrates. so in order to test if my bacteria population is high lengthen, I dosed with Dr tims ammonium chloride at about 2ppm.
i'll check it tonight (after 24H) and see how it goes. anyway, I wont be putting any livestock in for about a month, i'm setting up 3 tanks for TTM and a hospital / observation tank

TIP!
if you decide to fill your new tank directly from your RODI tube and you put some salt in at the same time, DONT leave your tube in the water and shut off the RODI while going to sleep.
I did just that, the salt diffused through the RODI tube and killed my new DI cartridge. I couldn't figure why I get a TDS of 860!
replaced the cartridge with a spare one and it dropped right back to 0. I rerouted the tds sensors, my RO output reads 4, after the DI I get 0. I guess that with RO tds of 4, the DI should last a long time!

I'll keep you updated soon!

@Liron Mishal- loving all the true diy work. How did you create the space between the side panels and the bottom panel when assembling the display?

If you wanted a truly clear return pipe, you can purchase clear pvc pipe at usplastics.com.

As for the water noise in your sump chamber, can you simply not raise the water level in it?

Also, FWIW, I like the barebones style stands. Why cover up all the cool looking equipment?? [emoji12]

Great build, following along.....
