I also couldn’t get my brain coral detached from the rock so I moved the structure back under my stylo like it was in the old tank. This also allowed me to add another rock to make my micromussa area a little bigger.

Just got the sump area cleaned up again. Also snagged a brand new battery backup from work that was about to go into the trash.

Making octopus tacos for dinner tonight so I took a couple bells, heads, eyes whatever you feel like calling it and tossed them into a blender. Wrasse and one clown went nuts over it.

Found a picture of the tank that started this obsession from probably 14 years ago.

I know it’s crazy but I want to get a pair of bicolor angels in the current tank. That was the very first salt water fish ever got and the bicolor, and pigmy angels in general, have been my favorite since. Just waiting to get full aquascape and for all my corals to grow in so when they pick it’s not a big deal.

Wife got me a maxspect gyre 300 cloud set up for my birthday. They move a lot of water and not in a violent way either. I also got another small box of rocks.

I’m going to use this and some of what’s in the tank to build a center structure to hopefully shield lps from the high water currents.

Got my box of rocks all set up. I’m trying to keep as many hiding places as possible while making the arches and hang overs that I like.

For the last section on the left I want a very large island with a lot of hiding holes. Probably going to end up getting one more small box of rocks to do that, but that will be a future project.

Got to test my emergency plan. Got a call from the wife, a text from my utility provider and my internet provider and a notification from the inkbird loosing connection at 1pm that power was out. Got home at 330 and the battery backup on my one gyre was dead. Wife said she checked the tank about 245 before she left and the pump was still running. So I’d say I have a good hour and a half of run time.

Just sent my dad a text thanking him for the generator he gave me a few months back. Now I get to annoy my neighbors for who knows how long.

11 hours without power. After 3 hours the throttle control on my generator started
malfunctioning. I’ll need to look at that. My dad brought his other generator to my house and after about an hour it would just shut off. Started back up with a single pull but only stayed on for an hour. Definitely fried a plug strip during this whole ordeal, may have also killed my ups. I’ll investigate more tomorrow as I have 6 hours until I need to be at work.

It happens. I somehow left the rubber o-ring from a union that caused some entertainment when the return pump was powered.

Done that a few times. Disconnect the unions to move things around. Where the f did that o- ring go?

Been over a year since my last update. The reef was doing good. Until it wasn’t. I was getting good growth out of all my corals. Bubble algae problem was going away. Then while I was working a ton of OT, all of my corals started dying off or showing signs of stress. Turns out the algae in the sump was going unchecked and brought my nutrients down to nothing. I lost my slimer, forest fire monti, hell fire torch, some random acro, all of my acans are on life support at the moment. I’ve started doing late night reef roid feedings as I can see them sending out little feeders from what’s left of them. My stylo was down to maybe a 1/4 inch of polyps at the tips but that is already growing again. Everything else seems unaffected.

I also recently got 3 corals. 2 plating montis and another stylo and another light. I like my ai but the lens melting is annoying. This Amazon one I got seems good, seems to have good review here, but I will see.

Last is I finally designated a spot in my garage for water and extra fish things. Sounds small but 2 cars, my work benches and all my non movable tools puts space in my garage at a premium. I have one more cabinet to put in but the bracket to hang it is hiding in the garage somewhere.

Found the bracket for my second storage unit. Got that mounted while my son “worked” on my car.

Also starting to see my acans starting to inflate and get some color back. Time will tell but I have hope for them now.

Rx7. I had a Miata but got talked into selling it, I’ve regretted it ever since. Was decently modified and was probably the funnest car I’ve owned.

Long time since my last post. I lost all my passion for the tank after pretty much all my corals died and bubble algae took over. Well after a year of neglect I’m going to get this tank back up. The wife occasionally asks if I’m going to get a smaller tank or get rid of it. I want to get it back to what it was.

About a month ago I found my ink bird had been unplugged for I assume probably 2 months. I figure that since that was about how long I had been thinking to myself the tank is going through a lot less water Tank holds 75 degrees quite well at least. Now the ink bird says the tank is at 109 degrees. So for now I have a glass heater in there to slowly get the temperature back where it should be. Will be replacing with a ranco controller soon.

First order of business is to get the sump in order. I pulled enough bubble algae from the sump to fill a 6 gallon bucket half way full. Then about a 30 gallon water change. Next was to check out why the skimmer isn’t working. Well turns out a hermit crab made its way into the sump and got stuck in the intake of the skimmer pump. I have no idea how the thing is still alive. Hermit is now in the refugium to help clean up that area. I plan on getting a couple more hermits and an emerald crab for down there. Next I will be cleaning up the wires. I used a plastic raceway that makes the wires nice when it’s put away but a pain when you need to go through them.
