Could not pass up on this 185g round tank. I have always wanted a round aquarium and had the perfect spot for it.

- Living Color Coral Insert
- (4) AI Prime lights
- Grye powerhead
- 12000gph return
- (2) Reactors and large Skimmer

I wanted to never have to use a bucket for water changes so I built a water changing station. I will be able to do water changes in 5 mins.

Cycle process started 2 days ago. I have raw shrimp in the sump and I have been dozing a bioculture. Any other things I should be doing?

(1) Reactor has bio pellets in it. Should I run carbon in the other? Any help would be great.

Fish list:

- One spot fox face
- Aussie Harlequin Tusk
- Dog face puffer
- Niger trigger
- Tang suggestions??

Looking for a group of fish. My LFS has a group of bicolor anthias... ??? Group of flame angels?

With this tank height and the long 10’8” circumference is there any fish I should look at that a normal 6’x2’ tank could not handle?

Thanks!!!

how about a small group of lookdowns!

I have been exploring that idea for the last month!!! Anyone else object? I thought the height and it being round would be great for a group of three....

That is an interesting display, for sure. I agree that it looks really nice.

Choosing fish for it will be a puzzle. I just did some quick math on a sticky note. If the tank is about 185 gallons with a circumference about 12' 8", I'm getting about 41'' diameter and 32" high. Does that look right?

Stocking it won't be like stocking a standard 180. A 180 has a 6' length and a "circumference" (well...sort of...) of 16'. I think tangs, triggers, large puffers, etc would struggle a bit with these dimensions.

I would personally stock it with smaller fishes, and do lots of them. Maybe stock it like you would a 75 gallons, but with twice as many fish. Wrasses, basslets, dwarf angel, damsels, gobies, blennies, hawks, etc. I wouldn't recommend lookdowns for basically any hobbyist. A tank built with them in mind is best.

Thanks for the input! 40” d 36” tall

Ya probably no lookdowns...

For sure will think about it. Unfortunately puffer is the number one fish that I would like in the tank.

I'd tend to agree with smaller fish and pygmy angels. Depending on what sort of cave structures that could be used for territories Damsels, Assessors, and Basslets come to mind. Round tanks are nice but it really limits the left and right (horizontal) freedom.

Well, at the end of the day it doesn't matter. What matters is doing what you are doing and looking at fish and understanding to the best of your ability their spacial requirements. So on the right track. Best of luck and welcome. She is a beauty.

Personally I’d add a harem of fairy wrasses, a harem of anthias, and several dwarf angels or just a pair of them. You could try a larger angel, like a majestic or blueface. They don’t get super big. Usually 7 inches tops. I’d definitely do a harlequin tusk, and maybe a red coris or dragon wrasse. If you wanted to add a tang I’d stick with a smaller one, like a Bristoltooth or joke tang, as they’re good in less lengthy tanks.
