Been out of the hobby for 6 years and have only done Fish only aquariums in the past. This will be my first mixed reef but super excited and going all out on this. Would appreciate any recommendations along the way. Decided to go with a Cade 1500 and it’s suppose to be delivered in a couple if days. Here are my initial build items. Any thoughts?

2 Kessil AP9X
Reef Octopus Elite Elite 200Int
Apex Cor 20 return
2 MP40’s

Considering:
Ghl or Hydros controller
- GHL because I’m really interested in Ion Director, know it’s new and not much information but seems promising
-Hydros, like app interface better than Apex system which seems more coding based.

Refugium or Algaescraper?(recommendations?)

Any update on your CADE build? :)
Unfortunately still waiting for delivery. Was supposed to be delivered a couple weeks ago, but shipping company didn’t make delivery. Find out they didn’t deliver because the tank fell over during shipping. Waiting for new delivery now.

So sorry that was your tank! The replacement is scheduled to be picked up today WITH A DIFFERENT FREIGHT COMPANY. We do apologize for the inconvenience and look forward to seeing your build! :(

Water change station complete. Adding additional build items:

Going with Hydros System after speaking with a couple of LFS’s who are using Apex and Hydros.

Hydros X4
Hydros xP8
PH/temp/ORP probes
Kessil A360x Refugium light

Still deciding on what doser and will add AWC in the future. Tank is now scheduled to arrive this Tuesday. Fingers crossed this time!

If not too late I'd go with Apex. I haven't heard of many hydros users the Apex interface is so simple to use, if this is your first reef you'll likely be wanting to tweek everything all the time until your set in your ways and that's so easy on the Apex. Just my two cents.

Finally!!! Tank is in and can continue this build. First thought now that I have this tank, is that the quality of this Cade tank is amazing! I looked at other brands it’s really second to none. If I had any complaint, it’s the size of the Refugium section. There is so much space in the sump, but really not sure why they made it so small. That being said, it’s easy to mod. Only decision now is if I go Skimmer first snd Refugium second or the other way around?

Thanks, I ended up sticking with Hydros and for now setup was so easy! We’ll see how monitoring goes but was already getting PH and temp notifications before I calibrated PH and because my temp is higher for cycling.

All current build items are setup! Loving the Cade and Hydros system so far! Ran into a bit of an issue with the Hydros and my control board, it’s depth being too deep so I couldn’t close the door. Did a little mod to set it back and all is good again.

Congrats!
Have a Cade 1800 and a 900 lagoon. Fit and finish in these tanks are amazing. I am not real big on controllers, as I live in a 4G Wi-Fi environment.

Lots of room in the well designed Cade sump for adaptability. Will send some pictures of my set up

Have you considered a filter roll setup in the sump? I’m close to pulling the trigger on a Cade 1500 myself, but really want a filter roll for my next tank, and not sure how one would fit in the Cade?

Yes I’m actually waiting for the Red Sea reef mat 500 to come in at my LFS. Hopefully this week!

Also, it’s hang on or has a stand. Might end up taking out filter sock holders but may require some modification.
One word of advice, not sure what skimmer you are thinking about but I would suggest gettting an internal pump one. If I would have done that I would have had more options on where to put the skimmer. This would give more room to decide where the reef mat will go.

Appreciate the pics! Where exactly do you plan to put the reef mat? sounds like in the filter sock section? will be very curious to see how it goes. i was considering the clarisea mostly because it looks smaller(thinner) rather than the trapezoidal shape of the reef mat which gets really thick at the top.

My skimmer does have an internal pump, and I was actually thinking of putting it in the area with the media baskets, mostly to maximize/simplify the fuge.

Yep that’s where I would have put mine if it had fit. I’m not using the baskets.
