New Clam owner--I need help!

Hey guys,
I just bought a gorgeous clam from one of our sponsers here and it looks great.
I have never had a clam before and I have done research but I still don't feel confident.
The clam is a crocea. Should I put it on a piece of rock on the bottom for a few days and then move it up? Should I just put it in the tank where it's going to live?
I have read conflicting things about this and I am confused.

Put a crocea in the sand and it should be fine. Just make sure you have enough light.
Read up on reefkeeping - seach for "Fatheree" - there is a huge article from his book that will enlighten you on clam husbandry. Definitely the clam man if I knew one.

Maxima's are the rock boring ones - EDITTED ;) - Vice versa - Croc's are rock boring - maxi's not :)

my 2 love the sand. They even move away from the central ray of light. I just let them be and they can go where they want!

LOL Sikryd, you are backwards. Crocea's are the rock borer's hence the lack of scutes. And they are the most light demanding of all the clams. Maxima's follow in a close second for light demand. I am doing a write up on the giant clams currently.

Crocea's should be up on the rocks, but this all depends on your light setup and how deep the tank is etc.

I keep my crocea on the sand in a 18" deep tank, but I have very strong lighting over it.

Thanks for reminding me - I knew it was something like that. lol

All mine go in the sand on a frag disc. They seem to like it better that way.
They'll cruise around if they don't like where they are too.

My crocea is in sand in back corner of tank. 75 gallon tank with 2x 175 MH and actinic supplement. I think it depends on how much light and depth like previous person said.

i have always had my maximia on the rock cause i have only a BB tank.lol. at first they move around a lot but now i think they found the spot they like.

Also try to put a clam shell or a small flat rock under the clam for it to attach to, this way it will also protect the basil opening and make it a little more difficult for pest to irritate it....Let's see some pics.

I just got a new clam and gotta be honest w/you I am new to clams all together... seem them before think they are sexy but in all my time in saltwater i just recently got a clam... can you guys take a peek for me?
