Short story, I was "babysitting" a clam (derasa) for a friend of mine and it did exceptionally well and looked happy as can be. When he finally got his tank situated he took the clam back and I was left with the feeling of the tank looks like it was missing something. While at RAP this weekend I saw a few maximas and took one home. I tried to pick the healthiest one that I liked the pattern on. Hopefully I made a good choice.

Very nice, love the pattern. They require a lot more light than a derasa does. They prefer rocks versus sand bed although with enough light I'm sure they can be grown on the bottom.
Thank you, it was actually a very tough decision. I have a bare bottom tank but have the clam on one of those ceramic clam dishes. Tank is a redsea reefer 350 and I'm running an ATI 8 bulb.

Would it need more than 300 par? That's what I have on the bottom of the tank.

Ok, will do. I'm going try and keep it as centered as possible as I move it up.

Here is how we look today. A little more open but not wide open and responding a lot faster from light change and opens up faster as well.

Thank you, depending on how this does for the next couple of months I may buy another clam just dont know which one I would get.

That's honestly what I was thinking but doing just a quick search and they seem pretty hard to find. I saw DD has a few now but doubt I'll buy from there.

I would email Pacific east aquaculture and let him know your looking for a squamosa. Also, biota can ship clams to your LFS if you have one near by. I believe ORA carry them too.

Do you think this would color up, found a squamosa at my LFS.

He said it had a little gold when he first got it and hes had it for a while

Post what you decide on. It’ll be neat to see. I’d like to try a crocea sometime soon.

Me: how much do you want for the clam
Store owner: hold on let me see.....
*walks to computer
Store owner: 80
Me: Ok, let me think about it
Store owner: what's there to think about? You have enough store credit for the clam and more.
Me: Bag it up!

Not as nice as the maxima but time will tell what it does. Also, it was technically free...
