Is this normal for a tang? He’s just kinda laying on his side, lack of moving etc ?

I got him yesterday… he’s just much more lethargic than I expected…

Can you give some more information - parameters, where from other symptoms, etc etc - I agree - he does not look 'normal - was it right when the lights came on - or something? He almost has a stress coloration - which may be due to being new. Is there any bullying going on? Did you QT the fish? Did the salinities from the store/your tank match?

Looked stressed. What is he in? Seems small and what’s the green thing behind him? Lettuce?

I don’t think there’s any bullying, all the other fish have left him alone. I did not QT.

He’s in a 75g but he’s just in the corner and it’s just a green plant decoration…

I don't see any obvious disease - and it would be too soon for disease to show up - suggesting some issue with acclimating the fish, or some other stress. Could also be he is just getting 'used' to the tank. Posting your parameters - especially salinity could help. I might also communicate with the place from which you bought the fish

I’ve seen new tangs do this but often it’s a matter of settling in
How was fish acclimated and for how long?
Did you equalize salinity?
Turn lights down to blue for a few hours, add air stone and don’t worry too much about feeding
They’re easily intimidated at first then become a pain in the rear at times

Thanks all - will give him some time - in terms of acclamation it was just a slow drip for a couple hours.

Salt is 34.7ppt

Why a pain?? Need details :)
Do you happen to know what the LFS used for salinity?

That’s a terrible sign that he doesn’t have the power or strength to even swim away from the power head…., is he breathing heavy?

My guess is that the acclimation process went wrong so he has been stressed due to maybe ph or salinity shock

Best and possibly the only thing that you can do for him atm is to return him to the LFS.

Sadly no…
That could be the issue, also did you aerate its water during the drip?

Here is a thing I see though - the tang does not look like a freshly imported fish, it is a bit thin and pale, it looks more like a tang that’s been in captivity for awhile. Do you know the history of this fish?
