New to this whole aquarium ordeal I am Wondering what the best filter system as far as a hang on one goes if that makes sense. hopefully the best is also quiet oh and I'm starting a 75 gallon tank.

The best filter for a hang on back would be, a Skimmer. You don't need a filter.

Conical design and a bubbleblaster pump are a rock solid combination.

A skimmer's job is to remove dissolved organic waste from the water which is essential to a healthy tank.
It should oxygenate the water as well but that is it's primary function.

To increase flow and oxygen I would look into getting a water circulation pump or pumps.
Which pump depends on what you want to keep.
The "gyre" series pumps seem to be the latest thing but I do not have any experience with those yet.

I want to have a fish only with maybe a few pieces of live rock if thats possible without problems. If not then fish only.

Live rock makes things easier not harder.
I would highly recommend getting around 50 lbs for a 75 gallon.

With some live rock, a decent skimmer and circulation you will be well on your way.

Most important thing is PATIENCE.
A saltwater tank has to mature which takes several months when first starting it then a few days to a few weeks to adjust when new livestock is added.
In the meantime I would try to learn as much as I can. This will help you avoid the common mistakes that can get frustrating and expensive.

nice! with 75 gallons whats the limit I'm looking at for the amount of fish?

Depends on what style of tank you want to keep.

First I would get the equipment and rock in place then look at what type of fish interest you.
The amount you could keep in good conscious depends on what style you want to go with.

Predator, community, species specific, maybe keep a few corals?
Many species of saltwater fish can live 10 or even 20 years in some cases so keep that in mind when considering what you want.

I would not get any fish that I know will not be able to keep as an adult.
I could not imagine buying a Great Dane to "trade in" when he got big but some people do that with Blue Hepatus tangs without thinking twice about it....:loco:

Yeah that's what I'm trying to get everything together to at least start the cycle period I got a heater, just looking into filters so that I don't get stuck with a crappy one. what else is missing heater, filter....?
