New fish after ich

I'm new here. I bought some fish at a big box store and didn't quarantine. I ended up with ich and lost many fish and fry. I've since added a UV filter and a second top filter. I've also started using aquarium salt & better conditioners. I haven't seen any spots since late August. I've also started using biosponges. I have 8 new fish in my quarantine tank and I'm afraid to move them to my main tank. I've had the 8 new fish about 3 weeks. They seem well. I almost don't want to move them but I need to introduce new fish to reduce inbreeding. Is it safe in my main tank yet? Or am I going to expose the new fish (all different types of guppies only) to the ich i previously fought?

Since you said guppies, I’m assuming this is a freshwater system. Did you do any type of treatment to the system after you lost some fish?

This sounds like a freshwater system. Is there any reason you can’t just treat ich in the display tank?

They did say they were using aquarium salt, guppies can go brackish like mollies… but it would help to know if it was full freshwater to better help you OP. Welcome to r2r!

Welcome to R2R! Where most of us here know more about saltwater then freshwater. I use to run freshwater but I knew nothing about fish sickness or anything like that! Hopefully fish medics here can answer your questions in regard to freshwater treatments.

Since it is unknown as of now if you maintain these fish in brackish or freshwater, it is hard to give a straight answer on how to proceed.

I maintain both fresh and salt.

To eradicate an ich issue in freshwater, you can use a product like API Super Cure and follow package instructions. Increasing the tank temp to 82F will speed up the life cycle of the freshwater ich assisting in faster resolution. This treatment would likely be hard on fish fry if there are still some alive in the system.

I am less knowledgeable about resolving the issue in a brackish system, so I will let other members chime in with their recommendation.
