@Peace River I've been home unless the power went out at night.. maybe.. I usally unplug it during feeding time for about 20 mins or so. What would happen if it went out like that?

If it went out for a extended period of time the o2 in your water would be depleted and your fish could suffocate.

I'm with the majority here, O2 levels are a likely cause, especially if you're saying one of the fish was gasping. Do you just have that one wavemaker for surface agitation?

I have the output on one side now breaking the top of the water and then the one power head on the opposite side of the tank

Another tip with using chemiclean type products for cyano; make sure to get an air pump and put an air stone in the tank. Those type of meds take oxygen out of the water and sometimes make it look like they don’t work. Proper gas exchange is important.

I’m glad to see that you are switching to a sump soon. I personally do not have experience with canister filters as I am a noob, but between the horror stories of what can happen during power outages I don’t use them. My area has power outages too often for me to feel comfortable. Hoping to get a generator soon to backup my tanks, AC, and fridge. Priorities lol!
