Hi NW Pa Reefer, I live in SW Pa. Welcome to R2R. Yes, the equipment has changed a lot but the biology is still the same. We relied on that biology to work for us in the past so I think with what you know of that, that you are not as much of a newbie as you think.

Welcome to R2R, I too had a reef tank in the 80s, took 25 yrs off and when I came back it was a shock to the system.
This is a great place to learn and relearn tons of stuff.

Hi, New member from NW Pa. Had salt water tanks back in the 80s but things are so different now I consider myself a newbie. Set up what I hope to be a mixed reef tank in my office and looking forward to participating in the group.

Welcome! Glad you joined. You'll be up to speed in no time, though this is a hobby that Iove the continual learning. Things are SO much better than the 80s - esp food and lights!!

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:
