Buying a new 6ft planet tank with matching stand

.... what, if anything, would you i put on my luxury vinyl before leveling the tank?

some kind of mat?

It depends. I'm not familiar with those stands, but if it were me, I would do nothing if it does not have leveling feet. If it does, I'd consider cutting a sheet of 3/8 or maybe 1/2 plywood to size and placing the stand on top. You'll need to be creative with a way to hide the edges of the plywood with something.

You can use caulking tape like I did on my ext 170 and 50.. I used the same tape but black to hide the water line.

The stand should be square and plane from the factory, so you should only need a “leveling mat” if the tank is rimless!

The floor itself in your home can be another story… you might be amazed how many homes have floors that aren’t plane or level…

If the stand has leveling feet, you can use these to compensate; just be aware that the (smaller) feet can leave depressions in many types of flooring if you don’t use a larger diameter pad under each foot (I used 3/16” thick aluminum discs as foot pads on the last tank I set up)…

If the stand lacks leveling feet, or if the floor is very out of plane/level; use composite shims. Shim all air gaps between stand and floor so the stand is supported equally across it’s full area…

— It goes without saying that the structural component of the floor itself should be considered if not on a concrete slab!

If it were me I'd say nothing. It is LVP. Waterproof and tough as nails. Congrats on the new tank!

For context; here’s how I modified the feet on the aforementioned stand!

The tank is a customers; a 95G Fiji Cube, 5’x2’, 14X3/4” diameter factory leveling feet, 36g sump….

Rough estimates put weight from the leveling feet at around 85-100 PSI on the 80 year old hardwood flooring… this would likely lead to the stand’s feet slowly making impressions in the hardwood over the years…

So, we first looked locally for a larger diameter leveling foot with the same thread pitch, to no avail… in the end, I rushed home and fabricated 14X 1.5” diameter 3/16” thick aluminum discs, cutting off around 1/3 of each disc to prevent protrusion from the stand…

Next, we leveled the stand perfectly on factory leveling feet, before carefully laying it down on one side to access the now perfectly adjusted feet…

Then, we added 1.5” felt pads to each aluminum disc and glued one in correct orientation to each foot of the stand, still perfectly adjusted…

Finally, the stand was lifted back up and set within our tape reference lines; carefully, to avoid spinning the perfectly adjusted feet…

This yielded a perfectly level stand which wasn’t at risk of damaging the underlying floor!
