Hey all, I just added this guy and the one behind it two days ago. Today he looked like this. Everything else is still looking great, along with my other rock flower. Any thoughts on what’s going on??

This is what it looked like yesterday.

How did you acclimate it?

Anything that could be bothering it?

Parameters?

Age of the tank?

Where did you get it from?

Mine contort weirdly when something bothers them, like yesterday a snail was cleaning the rock right by one of them but the shell is pointy and was irritating one of my RFA and it looked just like this. So maybe a fish or crab picked at it.

But another possibility is it ingested something that didn’t agree with it. Have you fed them anything?

Check parameters to be safe but because the other one is fine I’m thinking it’s something localized to that one in particular.

This is what I mean, this happened when it ingested something that it did not like at all. It went back to normal after a few days.
Yesterday was the snail incident (didn’t take a pic). This individual is more dramatic than my other one.
I’m not saying yours isn’t having a more serious reaction to something, just saying it’s also possible it’s just irritated and will return to normal.

I really appreciate the detailed response! I hadn’t fed it anything yet as it was new to the tank. It may have grabbed some mysis from feeding the fish. Didn’t notice if anything was bothering it. This morning it did look better around the mouth, however it looked like it was about to detach and float away from the rock. I adjusted the flow in that area then left for work. So I’m hoping that when I get home it will have settled.

I acclimated temp first, then drip. Parameters are on point. Tank is about 9 months old, but very well cycled as I used my live rock from a previous tank I had that’s 15+ years old. Got it from riptide aquaculture. I messaged them too and they have been responsive.

Last night it looked better, then this morning it still looked better around the mouth, but seemed to be detaching from the rock. Flow seemed a bit high so I made an adjustment to that. I’m hoping that when I get home from work it will have settled.

Let us know how it looks later when you get home. Flow could very well be it.

Did you double check parameters just to be safe?

I think it’s melting. Other than nitrates being a bit higher than I’d like at 25, everything else was on point. And my others are still doing well.

I think it’s melting. I added some photos.

Thoughts?
