Hi all,

Lat weekend I added a new new New Royal Gramma and Redstripe Hogfish to the system. The hogfish is doing great and it is really active but I haven't seen the Royal Gramma since then not even when I feed the tank. Any ideas?

Look around the tank on the floor to see if he jumped.
He also may be just hiding in the rock work and not comfortable coming out yet.
Or, if you have any hitchhikers or Nassarius snails, if he died, they will have eaten him overnight.

Thanks for you reply. The tank has a heavy mesh lid. I don't think it jumped out, but I'm afraid it probably died and eaten by my army of inverts lots of snails and starfish, inlcludin a green serpernt starfish 😞. I hope I'm wrong tho.

Kinda typical royal gramma behavior. My first one I didn’t see for 3 days and then would dart out grab food and disappear over the next few weeks he came out more and more until he was out all the time. He passed a four weeks ago after his belly kept swelling larger and larger. Fish medics said it was likely liver disease and that was causing his abdomen to fill with fluid and there wasn’t any treatment. I replaced him exactly 2 weeks ago today with a tiny guy that my clowns harassed. I went 10 days without seeing him but made sure I broadcast fed behind the rockscape. 2 days ago I saw him come out and grab food in the morning and night but haven’t seen him since. I’ve seen many posts like yours and it’s just their behavior.

Exactly what i was thinking "typical royal gramma behavior"

Hopefully you have a good outcome, however I just add one to my DT and it was visible within hours. I have had wrasses disappear for nearly a week, so maybe?
