Hi all, New here.

I recently purchased a 65 gallon tank with custom stand and top. The previous owner(whom also built the top) has two cut outs designed for using the Fluval Marine led light.

I do not want to mess with the top too much and I have heard mixed reviews regarding the Fluval marine light. I like the way the top looks with the stand. My concern is given the depth of the tank and where the light is currently is that going to provide enough light for sustaining some beginners corals. I am not looking to go crazy with corals just a few for some color but this will be mostly a fish tank.
right nw the light sits above the water 6 inches and the tops of my live rock are at 13 inches below the water. I could lower the light by 4 inches by cutting the notches out or raise the live rock by restructuring them.

Any advice is appreciated

I’ve used a current marine orbit on my tanks in the past but it isn’t strong enough even sitting so close to the waterline. With any top there is always a way to add more lighting from led strips to t5. If it’s only going to be for fish, I would find a way to add a few t5 lights or led strip. The fluval lights aren’t strong enough.

Update on my light situation.... So after A Lot video watching and asking around I decided to ditch the Fluval Marine and go with the AI prime HD 16. I really did not want to cut the canopy but after all I read I felt like top mounting thru holes was the best option. This way I don’t have to worry about heat or water and it sits the lights 12 inches above the water.

thanks

Sorry. It wasn’t and emergency. This is my first post here and I don’t do forums regularly. I hit the emergency button by accident and couldn’t find a way to remove after I posted. Sorry. Thanks for the help.
