I can tell you what will happen to diatoms:
  • Without phosguard it will take 30-31 days for them to disappear
  • With phosguard it will take a month for them to disappear

Diatoms are practically inevitable stage in a newly established tank and fighting them is of little importance or consequence. In a matter of fact some people dose silica to have diatoms bloom, when their tanks are overcome by dinos.
