Have a new mixed Reef up and running. Haven’t been feeding too heavy but have recently seen an increase in hair algae. I have been keeping up with water changes. About 2 weeks ago, I found my watchman goby on the floor. He was paired with my pistol shrimp and haven’t seen the shrimp since. Is there a chance he died and this is causing my algae?

How long have the tank been running. I doubt the shrimp would cause a algea outbreak if the tank is big enough, have adequate filtration and there is a clean up crew in place. So some more info is needed.

Tank is two months old. Nice fuge going with good growth. Good skim being produced. 90 total gallons, 4 total fish. No hermits yet, just some good snails. Planning on adding hermits on Wednesday. Wasn’t going to add until needed. Lost a pair of clowns to ich today.

So am guessing it's just new tank uglies. It happens to me in a 16 month old tank everytime I put in a new rock. I don't miss those early days.

Well it’s also pretty see through and noticed very light in color and read that was a sign that it was weak..it’s a little more than I expected though

this is a 10 gallon I set up a few weeks ago.
That hair algea was thick on top of that rock work. It has been dyeing off slowly. Plus I am not sure if the clean up crew is taking care of it.
Point is I would not worry about the shrimp and the nutrient thing. Have you test for level yet.

Oh ya! Two days ago PO4 was at 0.023 with Hanna. Haven’t looked at nitrates in a while but will tonight. Corals also seem happy including sps.
