I purchased this existing setup from someone 3 weeks ago. I kept the rock, sand, fish, frags, and about 20% of the water. I have added 10 days apart the 2 large pieces of rock on the left and right along with the snowflake eel and a cleanup crew of snails and hermit crabs. Since initial set up I have done 2 5gallon water changes. Over the last few days I have had a large acceleration of algae growing on the sand and the new rock I first added on the left. Is this normal? Something to be concerned with? Have I added rock too soon?
In my sump I have filter sock, foam (from old setup), protein skimmer and an 11 oz pack of chemi pure.
Ph is at 8.2. Ammonia 0. And nitrate 10ppm.

Most likely just signs of the new rocks leeching a little breaking themselves in. As long as parameters aren't going crazy probably nothing to stress about.

Great thanks for the thoughts. I do have the rock rinsed and then sitting in salt water the whole time before adding. But I am guessing thats a bit helpful but not the whole answer.

Probably a "mini-cycle" from using/disturbing old sand. Just keep an eye on params, you should be ok..
