Hi everyone!
I’ve been looking at several threads on this site for the past two weeks as my tank has been cycling, and it’s been a huge help. I purchased the fluval 13.5 gallon as my first starter tank, as I live in a small apartment. I’ve previously kept freshwater tanks, but this is my first saltwater.
I’ve been doing a lot of research on what types of fish I can put in here, and since I really don’t like clownfish, I wanted to get your guy’s opinions. I was thinking of getting a randall candy cane shrimp with a hi fin red banded goby, a firefish goby, tailspot blenny, and a neon dottyback. I know these all can’t fit in my smaller tank, so I appreciate any recommendations/advice before i make the jump to purchase a few of these guys (or others you may recommend) when my water tests are good. I have live sand, and dry rock

Welcome to R2R. :)

Congratulations on your new tank.
You're absolutely correct that's too many fish. I suggest the Goby and Shrimp.
You could do the Fire Fish and Blenny only. Neon Dottybacks in my experience are aggressive. They won't tolerate another fish in such a small tank. Neon Dottyback are one of my favorites, a good choice for a one fish only system.
Clown Gobies are a good choice as well.

A couple of suggestions:
Read through some of the stickies from the fish disease forum
https://www.reef2reef.com/forums/fish-disease-treatment-and-diagnosis.771/
At least the quarantine protocol and anything specific about whatever individual fish you might like.

I'd also suggest getting one fish and wait a few weeks before getting another - and start with the least expensive fish first.

I think its a bit tight for 4 fish, and personally I would not add the dottyback, its recommended to be in a 30 gallon, and it already has a reputation as an aggressive fish.....

I think your first 3 choices of a shrimp goby, firefish, and a tailspot blenny sounds like a beautiful peaceful tank.

Thank you so much, good to know!
