Thanks that was 14 years ago. I'm very much looking forward to starting a new build
Please do, I’m sure we’d all like to see your next tank!

Hello everyone, I have been an aquarium hobbyist for over 40 years. Started young. Lol Currently planning a new build that will start after my lady and I relocate to NC. My last saltwater tank was 14 years ago in Atlanta. Been in a 240 year old farmhouse for past decade that was not conducive to a reef tank. Here is some details from that tank though. You will notice the technology differences between then and now i am sure. I had a 30 gallon rimless solana bought used and scrapped the stock equipment. Added a current usa 250w metal halide running a 14k phoenix bulb plus moonlights. Also had a single t5 with a blue actinic. Skimmer was a Remora C HOB and used the rear compartment on the tank for this, the heater, additional live rock and a two little fishies phosphate reactor. Return was a sicce moving about 350gph. Also had two karalia power heads. Total flow on the tank was around 850gph. Used carib sea live sand and about 30 pounds if actual Fiji live rock. For cooling i had to build a custom top to elevate the light and then had a tunze aquawind fan mounted about an inch off the water surface. This kept my temp swing ober a full light cycle to only half a degree. I didnt dose, no sump, had a 2-3" sand bed and used only H2ocean salt mix. (I am bummed. It appears this is no longer available in the US.) Did a 5 gallon water change every 7 days. Sorry for the long intro.. i have been watching threads here for the past month and decided to leap in. Will see you in the forums. Here are some pretty pics of the old system at different stages over a year time frame.
