Came across this website today and found some useful information. My house needs to be tented for termites. I’m contemplating selling my reef tank or going through the process of protecting it from the chemicals, which doesn’t sound easy.

Welcome to R2R. Sorry to hear about your issue. That is a difficult situation for sure. I have no idea if there is a way to protect a reef tank during that process. Did the fumigators have any suggestions? Best of luck.
They weren’t too helpful and told me to move it outside.

welcome jshep13.
Tented for termites, didn't know that was a thing.
Did you get a 2nd opinion?
The termites have been there for months if not years.
Get another opinion.

I cant imagine that being effective, with termites embedded in the wood.
I had a small infestation that was handled with spot treatment.
What do they use and how safe is it after treatment.
If they are in the wood, the wood must be removed.

Sorry, off topic, if the chemicals penetrate wood, you cannot protect you aquarium, so sell it or temporarily remove it.

Yes, tenting homes for termites is a thing in tropical climates. Although it doesn't provide a definitive outcome, here is a link that may add to the conversation about tenting and fish tanks:

Good luck with whatever you choose!

Welcome to R2R! I hope you don't end up leaving the hobby because if this... I know it's an interesting challenge but that why were in the lobby right? Hoping that the advice you got earlier helps... fumigating is a challenge regardless of whether you have a tank or not. I wish you all the best!
