Just received a new torch from a local seller and it looked fine when opening packaging. Since then it has split/cracked twice. Frag and both splits look like they are doing well but is odd to see. I’ve isolated the frag and moved it to a lower flow area to see if it makes it. Has anyone ever seen this before? What could be the cause?
Tank up for 6 months and all other coral look fine.
Salinity:35
Cal:420
Alk:8.4-8.9
Mag: 1240-1320

Hmmm, not super clear from the pictures but it looks a little like polyp bailout to me. Did you exchange parameters with the source hobbyist? I wonder if tank conditions were super different between the two of you leading to the stress event that caused the bailout.

What are nutrient levels like in your tank?

I bought multiple coral from him and all seem to be doing well. I bought this Todd Torch from him at the same time and it’s looking great from the same tank. Nutrients are posted above and I’m auto dosing with Red Sea products every other day or so.

Went back to the original post and can’t find nitrate or phosphate levels. The other torch looks great.

Head scratcher for sure.

Sorry, thought I added. Checked two days ago with Hanna Phos and Nitrate checkers, 0.04 Phos, 19.0 Nitrate. Swapping filter socks every three days and running UV sterilizer and skimmer.

Parameters look good to me.

Any possibility one of your fish or inverts has taken a liking to this torch specifically?

Crossing fingers that it recovers for you.
