Hello all longtime Salt guy but new to coarls.

i got this guy as a gift from my lfs for helping them out with a fish shipment. Can you please let me know the type so i can place him in the tank correctly?

Looks like favites.
Low in the tank, away from other corals as they have an aggressive sting. Having said that, mine have grown into my zoas without any issues.
Also, when someone gives you a coral (or if you're buying some), just ask them what it is. Considering you got it from an LFS, they better know what they are selling.
 
It’s some sort of coral in the family merulinidae. Something like favites, goniastrea, or some cerioid species of platygyra or paragoniastrea.
